The upcoming 7K VRDL360 won’t be support live streaming after all.
A message from Rao Jinhe (the CMO)
Here are those production shots in more detail:
Rao Jinhe “This decision affects only live streaming feature. We will be providing desktop software for both Windows and Mac for live streaming in the future and you can still use your smartphone’s cellular network for live streaming with iOS app ( we know this may be a crazy idea). “
The decision is so they can concentrate on the quality of photo/video. Needless to say there has been a level of disappointment perceived, as well as some understanding from backers:
“You guys are aware of how fast the 360 camera technology is moving right? Every contender on the market can live stream with no issues on Android and iPhone for the most part.”
“This is a huge disappointment. I suggest hiring some app developers that can make android streaming work.”
“Damn, some people are really spitting their dummies out! Live stream was a nice feature, but quality stills and video are definitely top priority for me. As a result I’m ok with VRDL’s decision if this is necessary.”
“Stitching in live stream in any quality is not easy, I can understand the choice they have to make”
When I asked,
The reply was,
August 2017 Firmware update, though there’s no real rush to do it. I can’t see any difference it’s made other than reset all the setting back to factory defaults.
If your not using a Samsung phone and as there’s no notable difference. I would suggest to leave this update, incase it messes with the compatibility.
The VRDL360 is an upcoming 7K 360 camera that has the potential to blow all the other 360 cameras out the water.
Pre production shots for the sample camera:
Some colour samples:
Currently the developers are working on,

- Increase the resolution for preview video and decrease the frame rate
- Full screen preview
Get the version of the app
It does appear to lack a tripod mount, but they say that they are working on an attachment and also working on a waterproof housing.
They say Facebook and youtube live streaming will be in 3k, although facebook have just announced support for 4K live streaming, so this could yet change.
In summary, the VRDL360 seems to have intriguing specifications. There are still questions to be answered, but they seem to be listening to feedback and took just a day to make changes on the first release of the app. I’ve backed it and will keep you up to date with any more news.
The camera is set to ship in September.

You can now stitch Samsung Gear 360 photos online for free with NadirPatch.com, a web-based service that offers several tools for editing 360 photos.
All you have to do is simply upload an unstitched photo in double circular fisheye format and it will stitch it into standard equirectangular form. This could mean there’s no longer any need to have high end Samsung phone to work the Gear 360. Considering it’s currently priced ridiculously cheap (less than £170) for a 30mp camera, this is a great opportunity for beginners to try out 360 photography.
Rugged, Waterproof 360-degree Camera with 5.7K/30fps Resolution, 4K Spherical Stabilization and 3D Spatial Audio
The VIRB 360 shoots spherical video at up to 5.7K and can take 15-megapixel stills. It has four built-in microphones working together to capture 360-degree audio to match the video. It automatically stabilizes and stitches the footage in-camera instead of offloading that processing to your phone. There’s also a live-streaming feature, which is compatible with YouTube and Facebook Live. All told, users should expect about an hour of battery life, all depending on which of the modes and settings you use.
The Price: $799, “available in 2-3 weeks”. Has anyone got a spare £620 please? This is straight on the wish list.
Thanks to Google’s new features for its Google Assistant, the integration of Google Lens.
Point your phone at a flower and Google Lens will tell you, on the screen, which type of flower it is. You can aim the camera at a restaurant sign to see reviews and other information.
The new AI system is heading to Google Photos and Assistant first. For you iPhone users, Google assistant will be available on iOS to.
It sounds like it’s what Samsung is trying to do with Bixby, only this appears to already be far more advanced. Time will tell
They didn’t announce when Google Lens will be available, only saying that it’s arriving “soon.”
With the release of the new 2017 Samsung Gear 360 come different versions of Samsung’s 360 software with the ActionDirector Version 2 desktop and the Gear 360 (New) manager app.
For some reason samsung have chosen not to update the original, so you’ll have to search and download the new version manually.
As usual Samsung don’t make it easy, but don’t worry I’ve found the downloads and here are the links
Download the Gear 360 ActionDirector Version 2 desktop software,
